plan
- Roll out clay on the slab roll
- Cut out the shape of the flip flop
- Carve the toe prints
- make a little indent of the foot by carving
- add the toe straps
- fire
- glaze
My final during the second semester made me so happy with the way it came out. This was a trial and error among many other pieces. At first, I made a flip flop but it was way to bumpy and not big enough like at all. So, I slop bucketed that and then started again with much more clay. I tried to make it more thicker as a slab and then just carve as I go so then its more like balanced. I started with the actual shoe and then added the toe prints with the idea of making that for like a sauce holder and then the foot part would be for the food. In order to make this into an actual flip flop I had to add the toe strap which was definitely the hardest part but we got there. Then I smoothed it all out and fired it. It came out awesome and then so I glazed it. Glazing is kinda where it went wrong because I had no idea what I was doing. If I could do something different I would definitely glaze it differently and make sure I do enough coats so it comes out good and not spotty.
